A One Stop Shop for homeowners with hustle
Bright in Your Own Backyard is a One Stop Shop for homeowners who are motivated to add second units to their homes. Bright in Your Own Backyard is launching first in the pilot communities of Pacifica, East Palo Alto, Redwood City and unincorporated San Mateo County.
Hello Housing will provide up to 100 hours of free feasibility and project management support to participating homeowners who want to add a second unit to their property.
We believe a trusted helping hand can turn your
"I might do it someday" into "Let's do it today!"
Here are the basics:
Your home must be located in a pilot community (see above).
You must own and live in your home.
You must have access to financial resources to design and build your unit.
You must live in one of the units when you complete construction.
You must agree to rent the other unit for at least three years.
You must enter into a written lease with your tenant(s), who may be friends or family.
The rent for your newly constructed unit is subject to reasonable rent caps.
You must take a landlord training course prior to leasing your unit.
For more detail on eligibility and rental requirements, please be sure to read through The Fine Print.
